general chemistry buffer problem
You want to make a buffer solution with a pH of 9.7 with a total buffering reagent concentration of 0.450 M. You have the following bases and their conjugate acids as hydrochloride salts available in the lab: ammonia, NH3; pyridine, C5H5N; ethylamine, CH3CH2NH2; and trimethylamine (CH3)3N.
a. Choose and explain the best acid-base pair to create the buffer.
b. Determine the initial concentration of the acid-base needed to prepare 1.00 L of buffer solution with the above specified conditions.
c. Calculate the pH of the solution upon addition of 15.0 mL of 0.13 M NaOH solution.
Please show work.
