You have been hired by Nobody State University (NSU) as a consultant to help the university with how to increase their total revenue. The university has been struggling in recent years, so they have hired you to help them in their last attempt to find an appropriate solution so that the university can survive.

Raise or Lower Tuition? Suppose that, in an attempt to raise more revenue, Nobody State University increases its tuition.

  • Assess a raise in tuition and if it will necessarily result in more revenue.
  • Describe the conditions under which revenue will (a) rise, (b) fall, or (c) remain the same.
  • Explain the process of revenue at NSU, focusing on the relationship between the increased revenue from students enrolling at NSU despite the higher tuition and the lost revenue from possible lower enrollment.
  • If the true price elasticity were (-1.2), discuss what you would suggest the university do to expand revenue.
  • Using what you have learned in this course, explain how you would resolve this problem if you were the President of NSU.

contemporary applications science

Assignment 1: Discussion—Materials Science: Designing Form to Fit Function

Materials science is an interdisciplinary field where science and technology are used to develop and apply our understanding of matter at the atomic level to improve existing or to make new materials. It is a fusion of the basic scientific fields of physics and chemistry where knowledge of atomic theory, molecular bonding, and the macroscopic properties of metals, ceramics, and plastics come together to solve manufacturing and engineering problems.

Use the Internet, Argosy University library resources, and your textbook to research materials science. Do the following:

  • Discuss scientific and technical concepts related to materials science. Use the manufacturing of one of the following materials as the basis for your response:
    • Plastics
    • Glass
    • Metals
  • Discuss how materials science has advanced to the stage where materials can be engineered to fit a specific purpose.
  • Provide an example of an application or object that is made of materials specifically engineered for that purpose.

Support your statements with examples. Provide a minimum of three scholarly references.

Write your initial response in 2–3 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

accounting 11 1

Conduct research to determine the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) on the accounting profession and decision-making of publicly traded companies.

In discussing the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), explain the following:

  • The purpose of SOX.
  • Describe SOX Titles I–VI. Use this Web site as a good reference.
  • Explain specifically why external auditors are no longer permitted to do significant consulting for a firm that it is auditing.
  • Describe why most companies expect significant added costs to their firm as a result of SOX compliance.

Sources used for this project should be largely comprised of the following:

  • Scholarly and peer-reviewed professional journals.
  • Authoritative accounting pronouncements and standards published by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB),the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
  • Public laws passed by Congress.

Prepare a 10-12 page research paper (excluding title page, abstract, references page, and appendices) in APA format that presents your findings. In addition, the paper should also discuss the following:

  • Active GAAP and IFRS Convergence projects of the FASB and IASB.
  • Potential impact on business and the accounting profession of changes in accounting standards or securities laws.

A minimum of six (6) peer-reviewed academic or professional references must be used in development of this paper.

assume all cash flows occur end year sgp currently financed 30 debt

Assume that all cash flows occur at the end of the year. SGP is currently financed with 30% debt at a rate of 10%. The acquisition would be made immediately, and if it is undertaken, SGP would retain its current $15 million of debt and issue enough new debt to continue at the 30% target level. The interest rate would remain the same. SGP’s pre-merger beta is 2.0 , and its post-merger tax rate would be 34%. The risk-free rate is 8% and the market risk premium is 4%. What is the value of SGP to Brau?

statistics homework 21

Probability

1.  Suppose that the mean of the annual return for common stocks from 2000 to 2012 was 7.2%, and the standard deviation of the annual return was 31.2%.  Suppose also that during the same 12-year time span, the mean of the annual return for long-term government bonds was 1.6%, and the standard deviation was 7.0%.  The distributions of annual returns for both common stocks and long-term government bonds are bell-shaped and approximately symmetric in this scenario.  Assume that these distributions are distributed as normal random variables with the means and standard deviations given previously.

  1. Find the probability that the return for common stocks will be greater than 3.5%.
  2. Find the probability that the return for common stocks will be greater than 10%.

Hint:  There are many ways to attack this problem in the HW. If you would like the normal distribution table so you can draw the pictures (my preferred way of learning) then I suggest you bookmark this site:

Confidence Interval Estimation

2.  Compute a 95% confidence interval for the population mean, based on the sample 50, 54, 55, 51, 52, 51, 54, 52, 56, and 53.  Change the last number from 53 to 91 and recalculate the confidence interval.  Using the results, describe the effect of an outlier or extreme value on the confidence interval.

Hypothesis Testing

3.  The management of XYZ Corporation is considering relocating the corporate office to a new location outside the Capital Beltway. Management is concerned that the commute times of the employees to the new office might be too long.

The company decides to survey a sample of employees at other companies in the same office park to see how long these employees are commuting to the office. A sample of 18 employees indicated that the employees are commuting X (bar) = 40 minutes and s = 5 minutes.

a. Using the 0.05 level of significance, is there evidence that the population mean is above 35 minutes?

b. What is your answer in (a) if X (bar) = 42 minutes and s = 20 minutes?

c. Look at your answers for a and b above and discuss what you can learn from the results about the effect of a large standard deviation.

4.  BestCoffeeInTown is concerned that the mean wait time of customers for a table is not greater than 7 minutes.  It can be assumed that the population standard deviation is 2.8 minutes based on past experience.  A sample of 300 customers is selected and the sample mean is 7.6 minutes.  Using a level of significance of .01, is there evidence that the population mean wait time is greater than 7 minutes? Fully explain your answer.
