Assignment B

————————-

pick a place off of earth that you would like to visit. It could be in our solar system, or elsewhere! Why do you want to go there? What would you like to see, and what do you think it would be like? How would you travel there, and what would you need to bring with you to survive?

Respond to one other person’s post.

Instructor’s post:

There are so many places I would love to visit in our solar system and beyond, it is difficult to choose! I think that my first trip, though, would have to be to the moon. I would love to collect some moon rocks and bounce around in gravity that is one-sixth’s that of earth’s ( at the Griffith Observatory you can weigh yourself on the “moon scale” to show what your weight would be on the moon – certainly a lot less than what it is one earth!). I would need a space suit as there is no atmosphere and I would need to breathe from an oxygen tank. It would be fun to visit the original lunar landing site, or even to visit the dark side of the moon. I could ride a lunar vehicle around the Maria Basins and up to the lunar highlands. But I think what I would really like to see is the “Earth rise”. The image of the earth rise captured by one of the Apollo missions is what helped people everywhere to realize that we all share one planet, and we have to work together to solve global issues. We live on such a unique planet and I think I might appreciate it even more if I saw it from a distance, floating alone in the darkness of space.
