  1. Memory:

Elizabeth Loftus has shown that many times, we can convince someone that he or she remembers something that never really happened. When researching this topic, some questions to consider in your response may include:

What contributes to memories being altered, reinforced, and manipulated? What factors contribute to false/poor memory recall, decay, forgetting (name at least three things and discuss their role)? Explain the capacity and accuracy of memories and what limitations (if any) our memory has. What are the 3 components of memory and information processing (define and explain their functioning)?

  1. Problem-Solving Strategies:

Some people seem to solve problems with ease, while others struggle with the simpliest of solutions. When researching this topic, some questions to consider in your response may include:

What factors contribute to effective problem solving skills (explain)? What are the names of the “rules” we use to solve problems and how do they work? What are the steps/stages of critical thinking? How can these skills be improved upon? What problem-solving strategies do you use (explain)? How does someone “make a decision” when attempting to problem solve (be sure to include discussion on Heuristics)? Do all problem-solving strategies work for everyone (why/why not)?

  1. Learning:

If it were possible for us all to learn the same way, it would seem there would then be no differences in people with regard to intelligence. When researching this topic, some questions to consider in your response may include:

What are the contributing factors that play a role in one’s intelligence? What impact does language have on thought? What factors contribute to how someone learns/processes information? What is imagery and how does it work? What are cognitive maps and how do they work? What is the multiple intelligence theory (explain)? How are some people naturally exceptional? What are social and emotional intelligence and how do they help/hinder you in society? What are the genetic and environmental influences on intelligence?
