reflective writing about an important moment part 1 and part 2 1
Reflective Writing About an Important Moment Part 1
ASSIGNMENT 1:
To help you think about how to approach writing a scene, think about being in the passenger seat of a car that is speeding along at 80 miles an hour. That’s pretty fast, and while it’s nice to go fast and go far quickly, it’s not so great for checking out the scenery and details, including sounds, smells, temperature, and even tastes. So, for this essay, imagine being a passenger in a car that is going 5 miles an hour on a nice day with the window down. That is the speed that a scene should take to include sensory details (sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and touch).
To practice getting into this mode, this slower speed of writing, for this assignment, you will work on writing about a different important moment in your life. This could be any of the following or something completely different:
- The first time you did something important
- A moment you regret
- Something that you felt proud of
- A day that you’ll never forget
- The time someone helped you when you needed it
- A scary close call
- The best day of your life
- The most fun you ever had
- An embarrassing moment
You get the idea, I hope. Use any of the above ideas, or a different powerful moment that you’d like to write about this week. Slow down to 5 miles per hour. Use 1st person point of view. Use present tense and first person point of view.
Also: This writing is part 1 of this discussion assignment. You will write part 2 next week.
- Your initial post should be at least 150 words.
