psychology s contemporary perspectives or theories
Our first discussion is about becoming familiar with psychology’s contemporary perspectives (or theories). Address the following :
- 📠What psychological topic would you like to know more about? You can pick any topic; it doesn’t have to be a topic discussed in Chapter 1. Remember, psychologists study behavior and mental processes, so be sure that the topic you select is psychological in nature. Feel free to check with me if you aren’t sure whether your topic of interest is something psychologists study. If you are stuck, it might help to look through your text for topic ideas. Your topic can be general or specific. Discuss your interest in this topic. Why do you find it interesting? Why do you want to learn more? What do you already know about the topic?
- 📠Next, find a professional website that addresses your topic. Provide the URL and a brief summary of the information the website presents on your topic.
- 📠Finally, which of the 7 current perspectives in psychology (see Table 1.1 and examples on page 11 of the text) best applies to your topic and why? Be specific in your explanation. The lecture on “Contemporary Perspectives Used in Psychology” provides more information on these perspectives than the textbook, so it will probably be helpful to read the lecture before completing this assignment. Here’s a link where you can see the 7 current perspective in psychology :
( I can do this, if your unable to do so: just let me know 🙂 —– For 5 points of extra credit, you may also complete this optional step (include with discussion posting):
For this course, it is important that you are familiar with journal articles and how to find them. Use the CCSF library databases (see below) to find a journal article (i.e., a research study) on your topic. Journal articles are journal-style scientific papers and focus on research by reporting the details of the research conducted by the author(s). Accordingly, these articles contain sections that coincide with the experimental process: abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion. Be sure that the article you find has these sections. Here is a good example of what a journal article looks like: Journal Article Example. Read the article, and include a brief summary of the findings (usually discussed in the results and discussion sections) in your discussion posting.
To access the databases, you need your CCSF RAM ID. This is the same ID and password you use to login to our class. Follow these steps:
- Go to http://www.ccsf.edu/NEW/ccsf/en/library/finding-information/article.html (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
- You should land on a page entitled A-Z Databases. You can try Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) or ERIC or any other database that you think might lead you to what you are looking for.
- You may be instructed at this point to login using your RAM ID.
- Do your search. You can search for author, title, subject, etc. Be sure to limit your results to “documents with full text” by checking the appropriate boxes.*Be sure to give proper credit to the references that you use. It is OK to simply list the URL or citation at the bottom of your posting.
