Professional Development of Nursing

1 postsRe: Topic 4 DQ 1The American Nurses Association is the body that is tasked with the development of standards of practice that govern and apply to all nurses (Patsy, 2016) . However, individual states develop their own laws and regulations. The State of Florida Legislature has enacted the Nurse Practice Act, an Act that regulates various aspects of nursing such as licensing and education with the aim of ensuring that patients get the best health care. Additionally, the Act creates the Florida Nursing Board which comes up with rules that should be in conformity with the Act. The Board is a regulatory body that ensures that the nurses comply with the laid down rules on licensing and that the nurses have attained the minimum requirements required for one to practice nursing in the State of Florida. These laws regulate specific areas of nursing for instance there is one that requires a nurse to enter into a collaborative practice agreement with a physician where the nurse receives instructions from a senior medical officer (Ritter, 2020). A nurse who fails to comply with the laid down rules and regulations risks forfeiting their license. The nurse is required to read and understand the laws of his/her state and it is not a defense for a nurse to claim that they did not know the law.ReferencesThis is a class discussion.
