Each student will perform an individual fire inspection based on a facility of your choice
(suggest not making an overly complex building; you are welcome to choose a building on
campus). Do not use company names and make 100% sure you have permission to do this
activity at the site you choose: Students performing building inspections MUST respect the
privacy of the occupants. Students may not enter any area designated for use by the
opposite sex. Let them know this is an academic exercise ONLY. The assignment and
discussion questions are designed to address individual elements of the fire inspection final
document; assess features of public safety such as fire doors, components of egress, and
document any hazards witnessed, etc.. Please keep in mind that every occupancy is unique and
you will need to use your judgment as to whether or not the specific element applies to your
individualized situation or jurisdiction. Your fire inspection must follow model code standards of
your choice (e.g., NFPA 1/NFPA 101, IFC/IBC, etc.). Thus, it is important that you become
familiar with the model code standards presented in this class.
Attached is a rubric and an example, FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE FOR GUIDANCE ( USE A HYPOTHITICAL BUILDING NAMED X)
