Does research support a connection between type of adult attachment and type of adult love?

Write a 3–4-page assessment in which you examine possible connections between adult attachment styles and the types of love that adults develop.

Look in the Capella library for research articles on the topic of attachment styles in adulthood, theories of love, and the relationship between attachment styles and types of love. Consider whether there is a connection between adult attachment styles and the types of love adults develop. In your assessment, include the following:

  • Examine the relationship between Sternberg’s triangular theory of love and types of adult attachment as described by Baumeister and Bushman (see the Context for this assessment).
    • Are specific types of attachment related to specific types of love?
    • Does research support a connection between type of adult attachment and type of adult love?
  • Explain how a psychology professional can use the research on attachment styles and types of love to help people prepare for success in couple relationships.

Your submitted assessment should be 3–4 pages in length, excluding title page and reference page. Be sure to follow APA guidelines for format and style.

Additional Requirements

  • Include a title page and reference page.
  • At least three current scholarly or professional resources.
  • APA format.
  • Times New Roman font, 12 point.
  • Double spaced.

How do these epistemologies impact ethics and morals?

Comparing Modernist Approaches

During the modernist period, you noticed a countercultural movement of romanticism and early existentialism. Explore the two major strands of early modernism – sensationalism and rationalism – along with the countercultural movement – romanticism and early existentialism. While British sensationalism also emerged during this period, it is more of a blending of sensationalism and rationalism. You’ll focus on the two more pure thought systems.

You’ve noticed that the three groups – the sensationalists, the rationalists, and the romantics, have very different epistemologies. The sensationalists trusted the senses or sense experience to determine truth. While many of them also used reason to some degree, they placed a greater trust in the senses. The rationalists, while giving some credence to the senses, primarily trusted reason as the best guide to knowing truth. The romantics took a more phenomenological approach and placed greater emphasis on emotions in the process of determining how to live; they weren’t as concerned with the issue of truth.

  • How do these epistemologies impact ethics and morals? Particularly with the romantics, you begin to notice there is a potential to separate ethics, or what is right, from values, or the individual’s ideals. What do you think is the significance of this separation?
  • These three positions still do not dictate a view of human nature as fundamentally good or evil. There are variant positions within the perspectives. Discuss any implications you think exist for human nature in these perspectives.
  • Finally, address the implications for therapy. Compare how you think these different philosophies would impact the way psychotherapy effectiveness should be determined.

Be sure to support your conclusions with information drawn from the online content, the textbook, and other credible, scholarly sources to substantiate the points you are making.

The paper should be 2-4 pages, double-spaced 12-point typescript, Times Roman font, with 1-inch margins all around, and free from grammatical errors. This page count includes the title page, text, and references. All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

How big are the distances between scores?

Assignment: Measures of Central Tendency and Variability

Last week, you learned how to summarize a distribution by using frequency distribution tables and various graphs. The shape the frequency distribution forms is important, but frequency tables and graphs are not always the most efficient or meaningful way to summarize large amounts of data. In addition to graphing the shape of the distribution, statistics can be computed to provide even more information about the scores. Measures of central tendency tell us how the scores in the data set “hang together.” What score or scores are “typical” for the data set? Measures of variability help us understand how scores are spread out. How big are the distances between scores? Computing measures of central tendency, such as the mean, median, and mode, and measures of variability, such as the range and standard deviation, is often the first step researchers take after collecting data for a study.

This application will allow you to practice computing and interpreting some common measures of central tendency and measures of variability, both by hand and with the statistical software package SPSS. Download the data set that you will use for this assignment from the Weekly Data Set forum. Be sure to watch this week’s instructional video in the introduction or Learning Resources folder before beginning your Application Assignment.

Scenario: Imagine that your employer is hosting a walking competition. Employees are to report the number of minutes they walk each week. Your employer has asked you to compute descriptive statistics on the data from the first week of the competition to help him know how much people are walking.

You can find the data for this Assignment in the Weekly Data Set forum.

To complete this Assignment, submit by Day 7 calculations of the following measures of central tendency and measures of variability by hand:

By Day 7

To complete this Assignment, submit calculations of the following measures of central tendency and measures of variability by hand:

  1. Mean
  2. Median
  3. Mode
  4. Range
  5. Deviation of the highest score from the mean
  6. Estimated population standard deviation
  7. X2 (explain your calculations, but you do not to interpret this result in relation to the scenario)
  8. (∑X)2 (explain your calculations, but you do not to interpret this result in relation to the scenario)

For each measure you compute by hand, include an explanation of:

  • Your calculations (explain the steps)
  • What that measure tells you about the number of minutes walked by employees

For example, each of your answers might look something like this: “The mean of this sample is ______ minutes walked in the first week. The mean is calculated by _________________. The mean tells me that participants in the sample walked ____________ in the first week.”

  1. Compute the mean and standard deviation in SPSS. Note: Your hand-calculated mean and standard deviation may differ somewhat from the calculations in SPSS due to rounding.
  2. Describe how the standard deviation (SD) and the deviation of a single score from the mean differ in the information they provide.
  3. Without redoing any calculations, think critically about how each measure would be affected if the lowest score was eliminated from the data set. Explain if each measure (mean, median, mode, deviation of the highest score from the mean, and standard deviation) would increase, decrease, or stay the same.
  4. Identify the type of distribution (positive skew, negative skew, or normal distribution) the data create. Explain how you know the type of distribution and what it tells you about the sample.

Write your responses in your own words. It is acceptable to number your answers, but do not copy and paste the questions into your answer document.

Be sure to fully explain the rationale for your answer to each question, including evidence from the text and learning resources.

Provide an APA reference list.

Submit three documents for grading:

  • Your text (Word) document with your answers and explanations to the application questions.Submit the word document to the Week 2 Assignment Part 1 link.
  • Your SPSS Data file , and your SPSS Output file to the Week 2 Assignment Part 2 link.

Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?

Topic 4: Screening and Assessment Tools Chart

Directions: Compete the following chart. An example has been provided for you in the first row. Include in-text citations in the table as well as an APA reference listing below. A minimum of two to three scholarly references should be included

Assessment Tool

Include the full name, description of the tool, and what the tool measures (i.e., opioids, process, withdrawal)

Tool Description

Type of tool (paper, pen, structured, unstructured), how it is administered, how many questions, and general scoring information

Appropriateness of Use

When/where the tool is appropriate or inappropriate to use, where the tool will most likely be used (i.e., online, in-patient, outpatient, clinic), and what specific population the tool is used for (i.e., adolescents, elderly, pregnant.)

CAGE Questionnaire

A brief 4 item, widely used questionnaire designed to assess alcohol use. CAGE is acronym for:

C=Cut down

A=Annoyed

G=Guilty

E=Eye opener

Paper and pen or orally administered Takes less than 1 minute, Yes or No response

Typically administered by health care professional or clinician and is client’s self- report, scored by tester

CAGE Questionnaire-4 questions

1. Have you ever felt you should Cut down on your drinking?

2. Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?

3. Have you ever felt bad or Guilty about your drinking?

4. Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover (Eye opener)?

Scoring: Item responses on the CAGE are scored as 0 or 1. A higher score is an indication of alcohol problems. A total score of 2 or greater is considered to be clinically ToollTsignificant Ewing, 1984; NIAAA, 2002)

Often used in medical settings

Several adaptations of tool available for use including computerized and self- administered versions.

Free, in public domain and translated into many languages

Not used to assess for drugs but adapted CAGE-AID questionnaire can be used for drug use.

Best use is in adult populations

Criticism of the CAGE- not gender-sensitive. Women who are problem drinkers less likely to screen positive than men.

It identifies alcohol-dependent persons, but may not identify binge drinkers.

CAGE asks about “lifetime” experience rather than current drinking. A person who no longer drinks may screen positive unless the clinician directs the questions to focus on a more current time frame (ADAI, 2016).

How has structuralism impacted psychology today?

I CAN ATTACH THE ARTICLE!!!!

Impact of Structuralism

This week you read and learned about Titchener’s structuralism. As an approach, structuralism attempted to break down consciousness into elements of consciousness for study. It assumed that studying these parts of consciousness would lead to an understanding of the whole.

  • Analyze the limitations and strengths of the method of studying consciousness in parts.
  • Identify and discuss one of the main criticisms of structuralism.
  • Briefly compare and contrast structuralism and behavioralism. How did structuralism influence the creation of behaviorism?
  • How has structuralism impacted psychology today? As you consider this question, keep in mind the history and culture of the period in which Titchener practiced compared to your understanding of psychology today.

Write an essay that is 3-5 pages in length. Remember to support your arguments with information drawn from the online content, the textbook, and other credible, scholarly sources to substantiate the points you are making.  Apply APA standards for writing and citations to your work.

**Hint: a useful article for comparing and contrasting structuralism with behavioralism is found in the AUO library and referenced in your textbook:

Why is it very important to you, personally and professionally, to be proactive in establishing a positive working relationship with your chair and committee members?

Re:Module 3 DQ 1

How does the role of your chair differ from the role of instructors in previous classes you have taken?

With regards to the role of my chair differing from the role of the instructors from previous classes, the first item I noticed is that I have had phone contact with my chair in the first week of class, and I will continue to have more access to my chair during this process.  With regards to grading and feedback the duration for getting assignments back is a bit longer if it is a major dissertation deliverable.  Other duties include setting up the LDP for me to use as well as my committee, and she will be responsible for attending required monthly master chair meeting, completing all needed forms, and coordinating my defense calls (GCUa).

How is your role different?

My role is different in that I will be using other forms of communication besides the electronic forums.  I am required to create and edit my goals and timeline for my own individual success plan and follow the Milestone Guide provided on the DC Network (GCUb).  As with all of my classes, it is my responsibility to follow instructions for completing assignments and turning them in to the proper places and people.

Are these roles different than you expected? Why or why not?

As far as the assignments and correspondences they are pretty much what I expected.  What I am still not sure of is when I start submitting papers directly to the LDP as opposed to LC, or if at this point I am submitting to both?  I watched a power point on the LDP, but found it more confusing than helpful.

Why is it very important to you, personally and professionally, to be proactive in establishing a positive working relationship with your chair and committee members?

I am excited to be working with a chair and a committee that will see me through this process.  Developing a symbiotic relationship with these people, whom have all been through this process, will be the only way I can get through this journey.  Keeping the lines of communication open will allow me to work my way towards the end goal.

Knowing that professional difference of opinion or conflict is inevitable on dissertation committees, how will you leverage these to improve creativity?

Differences of opinions are great ways to learn.  I know that I have not been through this process before and I have to trust those that have to help me and encourage me.  Likewise, when I am frustrated, I need to let them know what is frustrating me and that they are there to help me through it.  Of the two committee members I have met so far, I am extremely excited about having them on my team and I look forward to their council and guidance.
