There are two major hurdles that have to be cleared in order to effectively handle conflict. There must be a willingness to confront conflict and overcome the barrier of fear. According to O’Grady and Malloch (2015), “The second major issue with regard to addressing conflict is the uncertainty about the capacity to handle the conflict emotionally and personally. All conflict has a personal impact and touches individuals in a unique way. Each individual has his or her own experience with conflict, and will automatically react to it in the initial stages of the conflict event” (p. 140).

  • In this module’s readings, we explored the idea that there are five barriers to handling conflict. Identify and discuss in detail those five barriers. Which barrier do you most identify with? Which barrier do you least identify with? Why?
  • Consider sharing your own experiences and interpretation of the research. Support your findings with examples and scholarly references. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
